Life coaching is a unique approach to helping people address the concerns in their lives. It is based on a collaborative and egalitarian partnership and the understanding that the purpose of the relationship is for the client to realize their goals. Life coaching is designed to help you make meaningful choices so you can accomplish your objectives. It engages your inner wisdom and curiosity in purposeful ways so you can take action and create the future you want.
A number of professions support personal growth and each can be helpful for different concerns at various times in our lives. Psychotherapy mostly deals with healing emotional wounds that are primarily rooted in our earlier experiences. Mentoring and consulting are done by experts who teach new ways to function more effectively in certain situations, most often in a work environment.
Life coaching sometimes taps into these areas but its focus is on current and future considerations and the development of strategies to create a life that is satisfying and fulfilling.
Meet Marilyn Winter-Tamkin
Hi, I’m Marilyn (she/her),
My deep passion is to help people create positive change in their lives and in the world, and to assist people in making the choices that work for them. As an organizer, activist, and former psychotherapist, I have devoted my life to helping people through the challenges of their lives and relationships, and to grow both personally and professionally.
This passion has led me to the field of life coaching and I am drawn to the personal power that this model offers to people. I am excited to have opened my life coaching practice and to be accepting new clients. I bring decades of experience to this practice and offer a client-centered, client-driven approach that is guided by each person’s goals, insights and strengths. We partner in a process of exploration and expansion - a journey that encourages greater awareness, action and sustainable change and that leads to greater fulfillment and satisfaction.
I draw from a variety of perspectives informed by my interests in psychology, Eastern, Western, and Indigenous philosophies, and the recognition of the importance of the natural world in our lives. My activism has been inspired by my concerns for individual well-being, climate change, environmental protection, meaningful education, social justice, political accountability, and nuclear safety. I work with people from many walks of life and marginalized communities and am sensitive to racial and LGBTQ+ challenges.
I currently live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My greatest loves are my family, friends and Mother Earth.
I hold a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles and a BA in Psychology from California State University, Northridge.
